The current root password is quite well known and there should be a mechanism to
install something more secure, possibly randomized or possibly given to the user
when they turn their new phone one. Otherwise with GTA02 having WiFi?, there are
going to be lots of hacked Neos out there... Because we all know end users never
change default passwords unless clubbed into it :-)

  • Component changed from Applications & Dependencies to Distro

Setting the distro into release mode (that zaps the password and forbids password less login) was reverted before the Om2008.8 release.

We should have another attempt...We have a patch to bind dropbear on usb0 only and could ask the user to enter a password at startup...

  • Status changed from new to assigned
  • Owner changed from mickey to zecke
  • Type changed from defect to enhancement
  • Priority changed from high to normal

that patch is applied. zecke, may I reassign the owner to you? I think this depends on your openmoko-set-root-password app.
