If you try a second time it will succeed. This seems to be something to do with
d-bus activation.

actually it does not work either - quiting and entering to dialer does not help.

Also I got another error:

Dialer Error: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply,
the message bs security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection
was broken.

In that case, it sounds like the phone-kit service is not installed or is not
operating correctly. Please can you try running "phone-kit" from a terminal and
report any messages you receive.

After clicking couple of time on dial it actually dialed so I cannot reproduce this longer error message. The
short one appears from time to time...

OK, I reproduced it. Then I logged over ssh to Neo and run command:

root@fic-gta01:~$ phone-kit

(process:1239): WARNING : Failed to make a connection to the session bus: Failed to execute dbus-
launch to autolaunch D-Bus session

This did not fix the dialer error (clicking couple of times on dial results in displaying the longer error
message).

Running from ssh will not work as it needs to be run on the same message bus as
the dialer. Please launch the terminal application on the phone and run from there.

I regenerated long error message, opened terminal and using stylu I wrote phone-kit in terminal. Then I re-dialed and I was
presented by long error message again.

After rebooting I can see short error message every time I hit dial. Dialer is useles now :(

I have same pb.
It arrive when I stop phone-kit with power-button.
One time the phone-kit disappear during a call phone (but communication is up)
and immediatly after I get same error message than your.

comment:9 Changed 9 years ago by phi-fmr@…

It seems I get the error message during a call or after a call because the phone
is disconnected from my phone provider.
During this bug I get a message as what I was connected again with my provider
and I can phone again :o)
Hope that help

comment:10 Changed 9 years ago by phi-fmr@…

sometime when I leave phone-kit I get (by ssh) :
root@fic-gta01:~$ ps aux | grep [p]hone
root 1169 12.4 28.3 486112 35884 ? Sl 14:10 0:28 phone-kit

so I make :
root@fic-gta01:~$ kill -9 1169
root@fic-gta01:~$ ps aux | grep [p]hone
root 1169 11.5 0.0 0 0 ? Z 14:10 0:28 [phone-kit]
<defunct>

but I can't phone again. Perhaps it's not cleared (some code is still in memory?

comment:11 Changed 9 years ago by phi-fmr@…

After some try I think it's because of the power managment (or lock display
(phone)) because when all is disabled phone-kit works perfectly.
Good luck

I put some newer builds into the ipkg repository. You might want to upgrade.

I don't think neod power handling has anything to do with the dialer becoming a
zombie process, it's rather gsmd starving at this point.

It works now on my phone! Receiving phone call and calling is reliable again :) Thank for fix!

There is another error I noticed with this packages (related to Missed calls message):

comment:14 Changed 9 years ago by phi-fmr@…

after ipkg update && ipkg upgrade
I start fic-gta01 & ssh to it

root@fic-gta01:~$ ps aux | grep [p]hone-kit
root 1170 0.7 5.4 26592 6944 ? Sl 09:29 0:02 phone-kit

make a call
root@fic-gta01:~$ ps aux | grep [p]hone-kit
root 1170 2.9 8.2 29280 10492 ? Sl 09:29 0:13 phone-kit

receive a call with answer

root@fic-gta01:~$ ps aux | grep [p]hone-kit
root 1170 2.7 8.4 29456 10688 ? Sl 09:29 0:15 phone-kit

receive a call without answer

root@fic-gta01:~$ ps aux | grep [p]hone-kit
root 1170 2.4 8.4 29536 10768 ? Sl 09:29 0:16 phone-kit

make a new call

@fic-gta01:~$ ps aux | grep [p]hone-kit
root 1170 2.2 0.0 0 0 ? Z 09:29 0:16 [phone-kit]
<defunct>
zombie...

after some manipulations I must make (because I even get the splash screen) :
@fic-gta01:~$ shutdown -r now

comment:15 Changed 9 years ago by thomas@…

If you get phone-kit as a zombie, please check that gsmd is still running.

The method does not exist error should no longer happen I don't think, even if
phone-kit isn't running - Also, I can't duplicate any of the other things
mentioned in this bug anymore, so closing.

Feel free to file a new bug (or reopen this one) if this is incorrect.

When I first received my freerunner i was able to make one call, after shutting the phone down and rebooting it later I have continuously had this problem with three different 2007.2 images - including the most recent i have tried (2008-07-12)

The problem seems (to me) to definitely be related to phone-kit, if phone-kit is listed as defunct in ps -A output, I can not make/receive calls or send/receive sms, i was able to start phone-kit in the terminal on the phone once and then was able to make and receive calls and sms again.

I will attach output from stderr and stdout from trying to run phone-kit shortly

Is there any other info that might be helpfull?
