Description

We need freely distributable/licensed ringtones to ship as default ringtones
with the phone.

Ringtones should be in OGG/Vorbis format (or converted to it), and licensed in a
way that allows free redistribution, such as creative commons by, by-nd, by-sa,
gpl, public domain, etc.

One of the ringtones I made for OpenMoko? - the current favourite.

  • Owner changed from tonyguan@… to sean_mosko@…

Dear Sean, I recall that we have discussed this issue from the right start,
and you response that lower level modules will handle the ringtone thing for
the stage.
Please have some one to care for it. Or there will be too many aspects for a
poor dialer application to handle.

  • bug_file_loc set to tony_tu@fiwin.com.tw

This bug is not about _who_ plays the ringtone (which is an important question,
too!) but it is about _what_ ringtones do we want to play back. So far, I don't
see us having any ringtones.

please add sth more light-ariel. (short?)
the last one's seem to be rather heavy and not applicable for an unobstrusive
operating

I suggest to pick some free music (creative commons and friends) from
jamendo.com or similar site and just use it :)

In this article there are some good links to other sites like jamendo.com:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_music

Some examples:

http://stream1-4.jamendo.com/1145/ogg2/01%20-%20Goof.ogg
http://stream2-3.jamendo.com/2225/ogg2/01%20-%20Invisible%20Walls.ogg
http://stream2-3.jamendo.com/2931/ogg2/06%20-%20A%20crazy%20version.ogg <- I
like it!! (Artist:King Dubby - Album:First Dubs)

Also, there is a LOT of sounds that you can use some from The Freesound Project
for use with the GUI. Some examples:

When power off the system:
http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/samplesViewSingle.php?id=3375

New message arrives:
http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/samplesViewSingle.php?id=2341
http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/samplesViewSingle.php?id=19288

Starting the system: some nature sounds:

I've just created the Wish_List_-_OpenMoko_Sounds page in the wiki, a collection
of free music/sounds we'd like to listen in the next Neo release:

Please note: The links I gave in an earlier comment aren't valid anymore. Please
see the Subversion repository
(http://svn.openmoko.org/trunk/src/target/OM-2007/artwork/sounds/) instead.

I've created a theme: "Retro 1973". Is about old sounds. See/listen/modify it here:

  • Status changed from assigned to closed
  • Resolution set to fixed

Closing this bug as the wiki and distribution now contain suitable freely
licensed ring tones.

Note: See TracTickets for help on using tickets.
