Description
I resumed the phone with the power button after a suspend of a few hours and the screen remained blank. I was able to ssh into the phone through USB.
I noticed
[ 5561.885000] Alignment trap: enlightenment (1478) PC=0x404ed4ac Instr=0xe5923008 Address=0x405a20d5 FSR 0x013
in dmesg (full log attached) but I am not sure if this is the cause or an effect.
enlightenment and Xglamo were both still running (see below).
This is with a gta02
I feel this is different than #1952 because
cat /sys/class/backlight/pcf50633-bl/brightness returned 0
but echo "63" >/sys/class/backlight/pcf50633-bl/brightness did not turn the display on and touching the screen after I did that did not turn the display on either.
cat /etc/version /etc/angstrom-version /etc/om-version

Also of note:
I next tried /etc/init.d/xserver restart from ssh the phone seemed to go into suspend. When I resumed with the power button I heard the click, and see some text on the console but it then re-enters suspend (stops responding on the network) within 5 seconds. I had to keep hitting the power button to resume the phone so it could restart x in 5 second chunks.
The second attachment is a dump of dmesg after x restarted.
Power settings were set to blank=>30 seconds, followed by suspend=>5 seconds
with the illume config for all of this.

Seeing your version description I would say your image is rather old (Time Stamp: Fri, 08 Aug 2008). What image and what sources are you using ? Did you run a full update to Om2008.8-update ? A couple of bugs that are related to your issue were fixed in the last weeks.

I ran an opkg update; opkg upgrade on or around Sept 7.
That seemed to bring me to: Angstrom P1-Snapshot-20080904 (Sept 4'th snapshot).
However I have not done a complete reflash since the pre updates 2008.08 (I've been assuming the opkg update;opkg upgrade has been keeping me up to date)

Your assumption is correct - opkg update;opkg upgrade should keep you up to date. I was just asking to make sure that you have the latest of the latest and did not mix it up with packages from different sources.
Could I ask you to run a full system update (opkg update;opkg upgrade) again, reboot and test if the issues still is present ?!

I've updated again, and the problem hasn't reoccured (yet) but this was not reproduceable on demand. I can also only tell the difference between a crash on this problem when it happens near by PC so I can get in through USB networking to verify the freerunner is still alive.
Is this the same problem described by #1789? (it sounds somewhat similar, but the details on that ticket are less specific and no logs are attached).

I need to run home so here is an unverified part of the log.

After 4 hours the screen is still blank (also no light behind the screen) and the red AUX led is on. The display and the phone itself is quite warm (> 37degree Celsius).
Power button has no effect. However I can ssh the phone. Output of logread is attached (logread_o.txt).
